Recreational Team

For many female gymnasts progressing through SGA's recreational program, the Rec/Op Team is the logical next step to take. Although gymnasts of all ages may participate, the main curriculum of the program is geared toward junior high and high school gymnastics. The only requirement is that the gymnast must have completed Level 5 or higher at SGA.

One of the most important benefits of gymnastics competitions in Recreation/Optional is the development of self-esteem. While the girls gain gymnastics skills, they also gain team camaraderie and self-confidence. Competitions are conducted in a casual format and allow for a great opportunity to show the skills that they have learned. This program also prepares the gymnast for high school competition in the future. The teams work out all year long to maintain good fitness. Most of their competitions occur between October and May.

Time Commitment

The Rec/Op Team trains 4 - 9 hours per week depending on the group and skill ability. Gymnastics meets are once a month and participation is optional, hence the name. That is, you can choose to go to the meets or not and you can choose which events in which you wish to compete.

Fees

Class fees depend on the number of hours each gymnast trains. Additional fees include an annual competitive fee to cover coaching costs and entry fees, plus the cost of a team leotard. Choreography of individual floor and beam routines will also be an additional cost.
